Reporting to the Vice President, Fitness, Recreation and Aquatics, the Senior Director of Fitness will be primarily responsible for the oversight, supervision and direction of all fitness programming and activities for the JCC of Greater Baltimore.


This full-time position requires the incumbent to five days a week with a schedule to be determined. However, flexibility is necessary for meetings, programs and events as needed as our facilities are open seven days a week.




-Oversee all aspects of operations, strategy, planning and staffing for fitness, personal training, and programming departments.

-Develop and implement department operating procedures, with quality measures and controls.

-Supervise Fitness Site Manager at each JCC location.

-Work with Membership team to develop and implement new member integration process, including orientation and tune-ups.

-Work with other JCC departments on programming and cross promotion of programs and services.

-Develop effective member fitness programs, workshops and events.

-Hold regular department meetings with minutes and clear action points.

-Work with Fitness Site Directors to recruit, hire, train and evaluate all fitness and personal training staff.

-Develop monthly plan for achieving revenue goals with accountability.

-Consistently maintain expense control measures for the department, with careful attention to scheduling, payroll, and personal training commissions.

-Submit bi-weekly payroll in a timely manner.

-Work with Fitness Site Directors to hire, train, and develop fitness staff.

-Provide daily, weekly, and as needed reports to track trending and needs.

-Work with Fitness Site Directors to establish fitness staff minimum criteria, and performance standards and expectations.

-Institute department inventory controls and expense management system.

-Provide leadership, support, motivation, and correction for fitness, program, and personal training staffs, with cross training for all departments as necessary.

-Manage tracking of new member integration and be accountable to the service and use of the club by members.

-Conduct Periodic Formal Reviews with Staff

-Enforce departmental policies through effective club communications system.

-Maintain a professional attire and demeanor at all times.

-Stay current on industry trends.

-Participate in club and community events as needed

-Perform other duties as required or directed.



  • Energetic, outgoing and driven individual who is passionate about Fitness and Wellness.
  • Bachelor degree in business or a health/fitness field of study. Master’s degree preferred.
  • ACSM HFS or Personal Training certification a plus. CPR/AED/FA required.
  • Minimum 3 years of proven success in Health & Fitness/Hospitality operations with responsibility for gross revenues of more than $1M. JCC fitness center operations experience a plus.
  • Advanced computer literacy skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Exceptional sales/sales management, presentation and customer services skills
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills

Ability to lift 50 lbs. Some lifting may require additional assistance from another staff person. Employee is expected to use discretionary judgment and ask for assistance from another employee if an item is perceived to be too heavy to lift without assistance.

Use of personal safety equipment required.

Continuous exposure to moderate to loud noise.

Occasional lifting, pulling, climbing, kneeling, and bending.
